Accessibility

Fold Arkitekter ApS aims for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This page says how we checked, what we know does not work as well as it should, and how to tell us about a problem.

What we did

  • Every page has one main heading, a skip link, landmarks, and a visible focus outline in the accent colour.
  • Everything can be used with a keyboard, including the filters, the form and the sliders.
  • Text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1. Body text on the page background is 18 to 1.
  • Interface targets are at least 44 pixels high. The site works at a width of 360 pixels without sideways scrolling, apart from the drawings, described below.
  • Every photograph has a text description. Decorative images have none, so screen readers skip them.
  • Form fields have labels, errors are written next to the field and listed at the top, and the result of sending is announced by a live region.
  • Motion is reduced when your system asks for it: nothing animates, and the 3D models are replaced by still images.

How we checked

Each page is tested automatically with axe in a real browser on every change, and with Lighthouse in its mobile setting. We also went through the site using only a keyboard.

What does not work as well as it should

  • The 3D clay models are an enhancement. Without WebGL, or with reduced motion on, you see still images of each view. Each model also has a written description under it, and everything the models show is in the page text.
  • The plans and sections are drawings. On narrow screens they scroll sideways inside a box that can be reached with the Tab key, and each has a written description. Room names and areas are listed in text for screen readers.
  • The image that follows the pointer on the list of projects is a preview of what the link leads to. It is hidden from screen readers and is not shown on touch screens, where the list rows carry small photographs instead.
  • The filters on the work page need JavaScript. Without it, all twelve projects are shown.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this site is hard to use, write to accessibility@studio.phoenixcodes.org and say which page and what you were trying to do. We answer within five working days and fix what we can. This site is a demonstration by a fictional studio, so a real reply depends on who is running it.
